A pregnancy under control...
by the dentist
|
Could a visit to the dentist’s surgery during pregnancy be harmful for
the baby?
Mothers-to-be can rest assured: there is no risk whatsoever, not even
if anaesthetic is needed!
In any case, during the first three months of pregnancy, the most important
ones for the development of the baby's organs, the dentist will limit
work done and radiological examinations to emergency treatment, putting
off everything else until later months.
However, it should not be forgotten that during pregnancy check-ups must
be intensified, as the high progesterone levels increase the proliferation
of bacteria in the mouth, and weaken the immune system’s ability to fight
them.
Our advice to keep you smiling during and, above all, after pregnancy
is:
- intensify oral hygiene and use fluoride-based products
- have at least two check-ups during the nine months of pregnancy.
- consult a specialist immediately at the first sign of discomfort in
the gums or teeth, so that the proper treatment can be done as early
as possible, avoiding or limiting the need for medicines.
